Blood stain on the mattress: what to do and what never to do
2026-10-01 · 1 min read · Impeca
A blood stain on the mattress happens more often than people think: a cut, a nosebleed, a period. The good news is that fresh blood comes out well, as long as you avoid the most common mistake, which is using hot water.
What to do at once
Blot with paper or a cloth, pressing, without rubbing
Dampen with cold water only and blot again, several times
Use as little water as possible: the mattress must not get soaked
Let it dry well, with the window open, before making the bed again
What never to do
Hot water or a hair dryer: heat cooks the blood protein and sets the stain
Rubbing hard: it spreads the stain and pushes it into the filling
Bleach: it discolours the fabric and does not remove the stain from inside
When the stain has already dried
A dry or old stain has gone into the inner layers. That is where injection-extraction cleaning helps: it injects the solution and sucks it back out with little moisture, and specific stains are treated with suitable products. Old stains can lighten a lot without disappearing completely, and we tell you so before we start. See a real example in mattress with yellow stains.
How much it costs
Mattress cleaning costs €30 per mattress, anti-mite treatment included, with a €35 minimum order. The mattress is dry in 2 to 6 hours. We work in Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos, Maia and Gondomar.
