Real case: a mattress with yellow stains, what came out and what stayed

Stripping the bed and taking a proper look at the mattress is, for many people, a small unpleasant surprise. Under the sheet, this mattress looked normal. Uncovered, it had a map of yellow stains and brown rings across the top. It is not carelessness: it is what happens to almost every mattress after a few years of use.

Before: old yellow stains and rings scattered across the top of the mattress.

Where yellow stains come from

Sweat, moisture from breathing, a glass of water knocked over at night, a child's accident: all of it soaks into the mattress fabric and oxidises as it dries. That is why the stain is not the colour of the liquid but yellow, and over time it gets a darker ring at the edge, where the moisture stopped spreading. The older the stain, the deeper it sits.

Under the stains is what you cannot see: dead skin and dust mites, which thrive in exactly this warm, damp environment. More on that in dust mites in the mattress and how often to clean a mattress.

How the cleaning went

Deep vacuuming of the top and edges, to lift dust and dead skin before anything gets wet. Pre-treatment of the stains with a professional, eco-friendly, hypoallergenic product. Then injection and extraction: the solution goes into the fibres and is sucked straight back out with the dissolved dirt, without soaking the filling. Anti-mite treatment is included. Drying usually takes 2 to 6 hours, and the mattress only gets its sheet back once it is dry to the touch.

After: the same mattress, photographed outdoors, no filters.

The result, no filters

Look closely at the after photo: the mattress is visibly lighter and more even and the biggest stains are gone, but some old marks can still be seen up close. We prefer to show it like that. A yellow stain that is years old has already changed the colour of the fibre itself, and no serious cleaning removes it 100% without damaging the fabric. What cleaning does is what the photo shows: deep hygiene, mites treated, the «old mattress» smell gone and a much better look.

The best way not to get here is simple: a washable protective cover and a professional clean every 6 to 12 months, sooner if there are children, allergies or pets on the bed.
