Urine smell comes back once the sofa is dry? Why it happens and what to do

You cleaned the stain, the sofa dried and, a few days later, the smell was back. It is the most common case people describe to us, and the reason is simple: the urine did not stay in the fabric, it went down into the foam.

Why the smell comes back

On top, the fabric looks clean. Underneath, the foam holds the urine, and whenever the air gets more humid or someone sits down, the smell rises with it. Scented cleaners only hide it for a few days.

Mistakes that make it worse

When to use professional extraction

If the smell comes back once dry, the urine has to be taken out from inside. Injection-extraction cleaning injects the solution and sucks it back out with the residue, using little moisture. With old stains we tell you beforehand if the colour may not fully recover. See an example in mattress with yellow stains and more tips in how to remove urine smell.

How much it costs

Sofa cleaning costs €40 (2 seats), €55 (3 seats) or €75 (corner sofa), and a mattress €30, with a €35 minimum order. We work in Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos, Maia and Gondomar.
